File a claim for Montana Unemployment Insurance online with the Montana Department of Labor and Industry.  Before filing the claim make sure you have your: social Security Number, current mailing address and telephone number and/or email address and complete name, address and phone number of all employers you have worked for.  The application process is a breeze and if your awarded benefits please have your banking routing and account number to have the IU payments deposited directly to your bank.  If you a member of the United States Military you will need proof of service (DD214) when filing.  Please note that US Vets must wait until they have been officially discharged from the military before filing a claim.

A user can also file a biweekly request for payment, update relevant information, request redetermination or appeal of a decision regarding your claim.  If you feel like you were wrongly denied benefits you should file an appeal.  All appeals MUST be filed within 10 days of the Notice of Determination.  Failure to do so will result in a loss of your right to appeal.  You can get an idea of how much money you might be eligible for by using the IU benefits estimator tool on the homepage.  You will be asked to provide approximate gross quarterly earnings (PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS JUST AN ESTIMATE).  The maximum amount of money you can collect is determined by the amount you collect during your benefit year. It is based on the wages you earned in your base period.  The base period is defined as the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters at the time you open your initial claim for benefits.  Online feedback and instructions are available as well.  If you have any questions please contact the claims processing center.
